Nortel Networks Corp., of Brampton, Ontario, is rolling out a broadband service node to make digital subscriber lines more attractive to a wider market by enabling security features, including network-based firewalls and business-class virtual private networks.
The Shasta 5000 Broadband Service Node allows access providers to offer value-added IP services and allows enterprise customers more control over their networks.
“We basically have moved security from a Fortune 500 solution to a mass-market solution,” said Joe Hickey, vice president and general manager of IP services at Nortel.
